It’s the Wild West and we’re all digital gunslingers. BAM, photo op! You’re dead. We’re never without our trusty pistol at our sides these days. Whether you’re wielding Android or Apple, chances are you take more pictures today than you did 5 years ago, which is a good thing and a bad thing. Never before have we had so many memories so easily captured and accessible at our fingertips.

These days, our weapon of choice is a technological Swiss army knife. A constant deluge of information on anything and everything we can think of. There’s an app for that! The seasoned pistolero knows when to sharpen those eyes and leave the texting and other such nonsense to the green horn if they’re going to capture a moment by being in the moment.

Thankfully we don’t even have to be handy with our “steel” to earn our keep. Advances in smart phones allow for gorgeous shots to be captured as long as we’re ready. The key is to watch for those special moments just as a traditional photographer would… all the time. Now days any geek off the street can be a regulator with little more than a keen eye and quick hand. Photo composition has become increasingly important as technology takes the guesswork out of snapping just the right shot. We can even fix things after the fact if we don’t like what we’re shooting, just get the shot!

The real showdown is when you get two digital crack shots at the same event. They’re the ones kneeling down below the table to get the up close shot of the burger when it looks like it could be in a commercial? Next thing you know a tumbleweed rolls across Main Street, the saloon suddenly becomes a little more crowded, and a new challenger appears looking more like a bowlegged silhouette than the lawn mowing neighbor from Sunday afternoon.

Seeing the obvious food porn being captured by photog numero uno, Mr. Jones from across the street has to try his hand, and his new iPhone, at recording the gleam on his glass of lemonade at your family barbeque. Showdown at high noon and Instagram wins big because every one of these pictures will be shared somewhere. It’s a photo showdown and your party is the OK Corral.

If there were only a way to bring all of our backyard barbeque photos in to one place… one photo album where we could all line the streets, peek out of the saloon, or hide behind the stables to take in the suspense and drama of a real life photo shoot off.
